I just finished watching Beyond Evil, and WOW—this show was a rollercoaster from start to finish. The emotions, the suspense, the constant guessing… it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just when I thought I had it figured out, BAM!—another twist.
If you like crime thrillers with deep characters and a mystery that keeps you hooked, this is one you don’t want to miss.
What Is Beyond Evil About? (No Spoilers!)
The story takes place in a small town where a serial murder case from 20 years ago still haunts the community.
👮♂️ Lee Dong-Sik (Shin Ha-Kyun) is a detective with a troubled past, and people in town don’t exactly trust him.
👮♂️ Han Joo-Won (Yeo Jin-Goo) is a young, high-ranking detective who comes in with a lot of attitude and his own secrets.
The two are forced to work together when the murders start happening again. But in a town full of secrets, who can you really trust?
The Acting – These Two Absolutely Nailed It
This show works because of the acting, plain and simple. And let’s be honest—it doesn’t hurt that both actors are easy on the eyes, too.
🔥 Shin Ha-Kyun (Lee Dong-Sik) – This guy is phenomenal. He plays his character with so much pain, sarcasm, and intensity that you never quite know if he’s the hero or the villain. One minute, I felt bad for him. The next, I wasn’t sure if I should trust him. That’s how good he is.
🔥 Yeo Jin-Goo (Han Joo-Won) – At first, I thought his character was just another arrogant detective, but as the show went on, I really started to like him, but still questioned his motives. His chemistry with Shin Ha-Kyun is amazing—they clash, they challenge each other, and you can feel the tension every time they’re on screen together.
If you love shows with strong characters, this is it.
The Story – So Many Twists!
One thing I loved about this show is that it never lets you fully trust anyone. Every time I thought I had the mystery figured out, I was dead wrong. The story keeps building and twisting, making you second-guess everything.
💡 Is it slow at times? A little bit, but that’s because they take the time to really develop the characters and their stories. It’s worth it.
💡 Does it get emotional? Oh yeah. Some scenes hit hard, especially as you start learning the truth behind the past.
💡 Is it confusing? Not really, but you have to pay attention. This isn’t a background-noise kind of show.
Technical Aspects – How Well Is Beyond Evil Made?
🎥 Cinematography & Direction – The camera work is stunning. There’s a constant feeling of unease, even in quiet scenes. The use of dark lighting, close-up shots, and slow reveals adds to the tension without overdoing it.
🎶 Music & Sound Design – The soundtrack is subtle but effective. Instead of dramatic, over-the-top scores, the music is low, eerie, and unsettling, making you feel like something is always lurking beneath the surface.
✍ Writing & Pacing – The writing is sharp, and the dialogues feel realistic. However, the pacing can be inconsistent—some episodes drag a little, while others hit with full force. The last few episodes, especially, are relentless in their intensity.
What I Loved (and What I Didn’t) About Beyond Evil
✔ The acting – Seriously, top-tier performances.
✔ The suspense – You never really know what’s coming next.
✔ The emotions – This show makes you feel everything. (Make sure you have tissues at the ready—if you’re like me, you’re going to need them.)
✔ The cinematography – Every shot is purposeful, adding to the tension and unease.
✔ The writing – Sharp, layered, and gripping.
❌ A little slow in parts – But when the action picks up, it’s worth it.
❌ Too many secrets – At times, I was like, “Just TELL us already!” Haha! I’m not very patient, but it pays off in the end.
❌ Some twists feel slightly forced – While most of the story is brilliantly woven, a few reveals feel like they exist just for shock value rather than natural storytelling.
Final Thoughts – Should You Watch It?
100% YES. If you love crime thrillers that make you think, feel, and constantly guess, this show is a must-watch.
The acting is some of the best I’ve seen, and the story keeps you hooked all the way to the end.
If you’re looking for a crime thriller that keeps you guessing, Beyond Evil delivers. You won’t regret watching this one!
The writing in this show is absolutely amazing. The way this show was structured—from the writing to the episode editing to the acting—was just phenomenal. I was completely hooked from start to finish. Honestly, I didn’t want to stop watching or return to the real world.
Truly a binge-worthy show.
⭐ Rating: 9.5/10 – Absolutely worth watching.
