If you’re a fan of supernatural mystery, emotional rollercoasters, and a storyline that will keep you guessing, Haven should definitely be on your watchlist. Based on Stephen King’s novella The Colorado Kid, Haven takes you to a small Maine town where things aren’t what they seem.
FBI Agent Audrey Parker (played by the talented Emily Rose) arrives in Haven expecting a routine case. But what she uncovers is far more sinister—and more personal—than she could have ever anticipated.
Main Cast of Haven
✨ Emily Rose as Audrey Parker – Audrey is the heart and soul of Haven, and the show is carried by Rose’s incredible performance. Not only does she bring Audrey to life, but she also portrays Sara, Lucy, Lexi, Paige, and Mara. Emily’s versatility as an actress shines, especially when she switches between Mara and Audrey. You’ll be amazed at how easily she transitions from one character to another, each with their own distinct personalities and emotional depth.
🔥 Lucas Bryant as Nathan Wuornos – The local cop with his own set of troubles. Nathan’s journey is as complex as Audrey’s, and Bryant brings the character to life in a way that is both raw and moving.
💀 Eric Balfour as Duke Crocker – Duke’s wit and charm make him a fan favorite, but his troubled past adds an extra layer of intrigue. The chemistry between Duke, Audrey, and Nathan is a huge part of the show’s success.
What Drew Me to Haven
I didn’t come across Haven until 2020, even though the show originally aired in 2010. I stumbled upon it on Netflix, and it looked like something I would enjoy from the start. It checked all the boxes:
Mystery
Strange phenomena
Drama
Even humor
It seemed to have everything I love in a show, and I was immediately intrigued.
Another thing that drew me in was Eric Balfour. I’ve been a fan of his since the ’80s when he starred in Kids Incorporated. Seeing him pop up in Haven added an extra layer of nostalgia for me, and I couldn’t wait to see him in action again.
From the first episode, I was hooked. The mystery was there from the start, and if you know me, you know how much I love a good mystery. Each episode, while focused on solving a new “trouble” (the strange affliction affecting the townspeople), kept things exciting and unpredictable. You never really knew who would be affected or how they’d solve it. But the bigger mystery of Audrey Parker’s true identity—who she was and where she came from—kept me watching, episode after episode.
Supporting Cast: Pillars of Haven’s Mystery
While the heart of Haven lies with Audrey, Nathan, and Duke, the Supporting Cast adds depth and excitement to every episode, making them essential to the show’s atmosphere.
💥 Dwight Hendrickson (played by Adam Copeland) brings a grounded, military-driven energy to Haven, offering a sense of protection and stability when the town faces its many troubles. His character is a vital part of the town’s foundation, stepping in when the stakes are high.
📜 The Teagues brothers, Vince and Dave (played by Richard Donat and John Dunsworth), serve as Haven’s unofficial historians, with deep connections to the town’s past. Their knowledge of the town’s secrets helps drive the larger mystery forward. They may not always have the answers, but their wisdom adds layers to the show’s intrigue.
🔮 Haven also features many other supporting characters who add even more life to the town’s ongoing mystery. From local business owners to town officials, the people of Haven each play a part in solving the supernatural troubles that plague the town. Each of these secondary characters adds their own layer to the show, making every episode unpredictable and exciting.
Plot and Pacing
The show is built around a central mystery—the town of Haven is plagued by “troubles”. These troubles are supernatural afflictions that affect the town’s residents in strange ways. Each episode focuses on solving one of these troubles, which creates a procedural format. This structure could feel repetitive, but Haven keeps things fresh by introducing new twists, especially regarding Audrey’s true identity.
The pacing of Haven is well-executed, especially in the early seasons. While there’s a lot of supernatural action, what keeps the show from feeling formulaic is Audrey’s evolving relationship with Nathan and Duke, as well as her own journey of self-discovery. By the time Season 5 rolls around, there are still plenty of surprises to keep you invested, and the show wraps up its storylines in a satisfying way.
Themes & Storytelling
What truly elevates Haven above your typical supernatural mystery is the emotional depth it offers. The show doesn’t just focus on solving the troubles of the week; it also explores:
Identity
Self-discovery
Redemption
As Audrey unravels the mystery of who she really is, we also witness her grapple with loss, betrayal, and complex relationships, especially her bond with Nathan and Duke.
There’s a tangible sense of connection between the characters, and the stakes are raised because of the emotional weight behind the mysteries they are trying to solve. This is what separates Haven from other supernatural dramas—it doesn’t rely solely on the mystery, but also on the personal journeys of its characters.
Final Thoughts – Should You Watch Haven?
If you’re looking for a show that mixes supernatural suspense, heartfelt moments, and compelling characters, Haven is your go-to. It’s a ride of mystery, danger, and real emotional stakes.
⭐ Final Rating: 9/10 – Haven is a deeply emotional, character-driven mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Be prepared—it’s a show you won’t want to stop watching. But once it ends, it will feel like you’ve lost a piece of yourself.
📌 Where to Watch: While this show is no longer available on Netflix, it is available on Amazon Prime.
